Who is missing??? It seems everyone associated with big name casino gaming is in Florida trying to get a handle, a foothold, a grasp or whatever on all the hoopla surrounding the possibility of expanded gaming. But one big name is missing. A name synonymous with destination casino resorts. A name that embodies five star and excellence and already has a Florida presence..... Of course, Donald Trump. Where is Mr. Trump? I had the pleasure back in 1996 of meeting Mr. Trump in Michigan as we were jointly, yet unsuccessfully, attempting to gain one of 3 casino licenses in the City of Detroit. It was a futile attempt as the political power surrounding the entities that pushed the statewide ballot measure authorizing the 3 licenses were essentially locked in but we gave it a shot anyway. Mr. Trump was an absolute gentleman through the process. Personally, I took away from that experience the fuel that allowed me to successfully lead the 2004 Florida effort that legalized slot machines. The first successful statewide initiative that opened the doors to a revenue sharing compact with the Seminole Tribe and has now fueled this latest push for expansion. So where is Donald? He had his own battles with the Seminole Tribe over broken deals to develop what is now the Hard Rock in Hollywood so I know he has interest.
So, I am officially calling him out!! Come on, Donald. Florida needs you. You can bring some needed business savvy and common sense to this issue. If Florida is going to expand why not include Palm Beach?? And if you include Palm Beach, you have to be talking Trump.
Oh, by the way, Mr. Trump can't fire me so I am safe in this call out. Anyone want to set odds on the chances of him responding???
